Video: Big Coal Suffers Setback in VA

July 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Thanks in part to your efforts, Big Coal suffered a setback in Virginia this week!

Members of the Dendron Town Council, backed by local supporters cooling themselves with hand-held fans reading “No Coal Plant,” voted to decide for themselves if a coal plant will be built in their town. The vote means this important decision will not rest with the coal-friendly Surry County Board of Supervisors. Watch the dramatic video of the Town Council vote:

I am a member of CCAN, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Hands Across the Lake in Chesterfield. I drove to Surry from Richmond because this plant will pollutes the air quality in Chesterfield, Pollute the James River, take water away from well once there is a clean up effort of the local water near the coal ash field, and contribute to global warming which threatens Norfolk.
