With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s the time of year when we think of Virginia’s most beloved treasures -rolling mountains, clear streams, and fresh air.
FIGHT TO KEEP OUR MOUNTAINS AND STREAMS
For the first time ever, the Virginia General Assembly has the opportunity to vote on a bill that would protect these treasures from mountaintop removal coal mining! The Stream Saver Bill - SB 564 - would end the burial of our headwater streams with strip mining spoil and curtail the destruction of our mountains in southwest Virginia.
Follow your heart and join us Thursday February 11th at 3:00 PM at the bell tower on the General Assembly grounds for a RALLY FOR THE MOUNTAINS and a special Senate Committee hearing on the issue at 4:00 PM.
This is a rare opportunity to proclaim your love for the mountains and the clear mountain streams that flow from them. It is your opportunity to speak up for one of the Commonwealth’s greatest treasures.

CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The flip side of the coin to stopping mountaintop removal mining is to reduce our energy consumption as a whole.
A critical piece of legislation is headed for a vote Monday, Feb. 8th. The Virginia Jobs and Efficiency Act SB 71, will create jobs and save families money on their energy bills, reduce demand for mountaintop removal coal mining and cut pollution linked to global warming.
Your state senator will vote on this legislation Monday! Click here for your senator’s phone number and a brief statement about the bill.
Effective energy efficiency measures can dramatically curtail energy use, reducing our dependence on destructive and polluting energy sources, and create new Virginia jobs that can’t be outsourced. Click here to learn more.
We send you a heartfelt thank you for your continued efforts for our mountains, the integrity of our water, and the quality of air we breathe.
