A poignant Letter to the Editor of the Virginian-Pilot from former head of the Department of Environmental Quality points out what the passing of two bills will mean for Virginia. These bills have since been passed by our GA. You can read the whole LTE here, but below is an excerpt.
TWO BILLS moving through the General Assembly will increase air pollution in the most polluted areas in Virginia. SB 128 and HB 1300 have been proposed to save money for power companies.
If they do, it will be by exacerbating existing serious air pollution problems, negatively affecting economic development opportunities and reducing tourism in Richmond, Hampton Roads and, in the case of HB 1300, Northern Virginia.
