On Thursday, November 18th, Isle of Wight County in Virginia passed an official resolution of opposition to, if permitted, would be the largest coal plant in Virginia proposed for neighboring Surry County. You can click here to learn more about the coal plant.
Isle of Wight County joins Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, the town of Surry and Congressman Bobby Scott in officially stating concern for the health of the people and economy of the Hampton Roads region of Virginia in light of the proposed coal plant.
The coal plant would benefit Surry County’s bottom line but only at significant expense to the economies, crops and health of every other locality in the region. Isle of Wight officially opposed the coal plant because it was the right thing to do, because it was wrong for the leadership in Surry County to expect the region to suffer for their gain.
Help us support Isle of Wight County for making the right decision in the face of criticism from Surry County Supervisors and the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative.
Add your thanks to Isle of Wight by adding your name below, and if you want, a note to go along with it. We will deliver these thanks at the December 1st and January 5th Isle of Wight Board Meetings.
