Virginia is Rising: Take Action!

November 16th, 2011 · No Comments

Today Virginians who live at the base of Ison Rock Ridge, a mountain threatened by a pending mountaintop removal permit, are participating in Virginia Rising: The Rally to Keep Ison Rock Ridge Standing. They are rallying at the headquarters of the EPA today at noon and are joined by their friends who live near other threatened or destroyed mountains and waterways, and a couple hundred supporters from across the region. Together they are asking the agency to deny the proposed mine which would destroy 1200 acres and bury three miles of headwater streams above several Appalachian communities.

Please join them by sending a letter to the EPA, the White House and Senators Webb and Warner. Click here to take action!

Over 8,000 comments, principally from Virginians, have been sent to EPA headquarters and Region III in the last year, all asking for the permit to be denied. Click here to add your voice by asking the EPA, the White House, the Council on Environmental Quality and our elected officials to use their authority to deny this ill conceived permit.

You can also watch the rally live, from about noon to one, via “Ustream” at this link.

With your help we have a chance at having the permit denied. Thank you for taking action.

In solidarity,

Mike McCoy
