A Historic Hearing and Rally to Save Our Mountains: Feb. 11

Together, we are making history in Virginia during this General Assembly session. We need you to show your support for two very important bills by making one very important phone call and marking your calendar for an exciting event!

Fighting Mountaintop Removal:

For the first time ever, we have a bill before the Virginia General Assembly to address mountaintop removal! The Stream Saver bill, SB 564, would end the burial of our headwater streams with strip mining spoil and curtail the destruction of our mountains.

On February 11-for the first time ever-a Virginia Senate committee will hold a
special public hearing devoted solely to this issue.  Don’t miss this unique opportunity to show both the General Assembly and the state as a whole your support for protecting our mountains and streams from mountaintop removal! Join us on Thursday, Feb. 11 in Richmond for a RALLY FOR THE MOUNTAINS at 3PM and the Senate hearing at 4PM.

Fighting FOR Energy Efficiency:

On Feb. 8th the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee rejected Senate Bill 71, the “Virginia Jobs and Efficiency Act” patroned by Senator Donald McEachin. The legislation would have held utilities accountable for cutting energy waste through set efficiency standards, creating jobs in Virginia, saving families and businesses money, reducing the demand for mountaintop removal coal mining, and cutting pollution linked to global warming.
